This is interesting. I liked the little quip at the bottom of the article (in fact, years of experience prove that debaters are in fact horrible politicians!). I really dislike the idea, which seems really prevalent in popular opinion and among non-debate people I talk to about debate, that switch-side debate is tantamount to sophistry (and this is coming from someone that runs normativity). I mean, I can understand how someone could leap to that conclusion that knowing all sides of an issue destroys your ability to create an opinion on said issue based on all of your nuanced knowledge… but actually not at all.
But aside from that comment, the article is really good. Sort of beating a dead horse though – I think everyone knows political debates are a joke.
